A Day To Myself

image from Country Home

It is a rainy and downright cold day today. My thermometer is hovering around the 48 degree mark. It's one of those days that remind you that winter is just around the corner. I have the house to myself, a mug of hot coffee and a log on the fire. The dog is curled up on her pillow next to me while I'm leafing through some old magazines for inspiration.

I enjoy days like these. Even though it's pouring out and the potential for a very sleepy gray day is high, it is still so wonderfully bright outside because of all the glorious fall color.

I took the above picture today looking off my back deck. How can I feel gloomy when there's so much crimson, gold and green around?

Being outdoors in the fall is almost as good, if not better than, being outdoors on those first warm days of spring. You can sense the change in the air and I've always found that to be invigorating.

A nice cup of tea and a good book, or better yet a stack of unread fashion and shelter magazines, would make for a wonderful day on this lovely porch.

Although this picture is of a house in Louisiana where I am certain there is not a chill in the air, I love the wall color. It reminds me of butternut squash.

This is a planter/chandelier that Nest carried a few years ago. This picture is from a magazine, but I unfortunately forgot to notate which magazine. I think instead of the big pumpkin in the planter I would have filled it with smaller gourds and probably would nix the crow, not really our style! It was such a great piece though, and seeing it again makes me want to find something similar for the shop.

The pictures below are all pictures that I pulled out from my old magazines today. These will serve as my inspiration moving forward into the season. I hope they inspire you too.
